Meta has acquired Moltbook, a social network designed exclusively for AI agents, according to reports from The New York Times and TechCrunch. Matt Schlicht, the site’s creator, will be joining Meta’s Superintelligence Lab two months after launching the platform, The New York Times reports.
According to TechCrunch, Moltbook went viral, though the publication notes the platform gained attention partly due to fake posts. Meta stated that Moltbook’s approach to “connecting agents through an always-on-directory” is novel, TechCrunch reports.
The New York Times reports that Schlicht helped kick off Silicon Valley’s obsession with artificial intelligence agents through his work on Moltbook. The acquisition comes as major tech companies continue to invest heavily in AI agent technology and explore new ways for AI systems to interact. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed in either report.
